Ha Long Bay
Ha Long Bay means "where the dragon descends into the sea" and some legends believe that Gods sent dragons, who dropped jewels and jade from their mouths into the bay, creating the islands. The area is surrounded by pristine, crystal-clear waters. Most of the islands & islets in Ha Long Bay are limestone that has gone through 500 million years of formation in different conditions and environments. The islands & islets are named according to their shapes. For example, Voi islet, which closely resembles an elephant, and Ga Choi islet, which looks similar to a pair fighting cockerels. Even Nguyen Tai described Ha Long Bay in a poem written 500 years ago, calling it a "rock wonder in the sky".
