Meet Santshree Sinha: A Fine Art Travel Photographer

WallMag: Can you please share the story about the start of your photographic journey?

It all started with my father's first camera mobile phone, 6-7 years back. As every photographer starts, I too started clicking flowers and sunsets from my backyard. As I started gaining interest in it, I soon switched to a small digital camera from where my journey began pragmatically. I never wanted to end being an average guy and photography seemed the perfect gateway for me. I started creating images, met many amazing people through my journey from whom I learned a lot of things which grew me as a photographer and as an artist as a whole.

WallMag: How would you describe the work you do?

I would describe my work as 'Visual Poetries'. I love to look for the magical moments and create stunning out of ordinary and hence, showcase visually inspiring photographs which is usually more than what meets the eye!

WallMag: Can you tell us about your achievements in life regarding photography?

My first achievement was the publication of one of my photos for the annual calendar of Tata Motors, back in 2015. Later, I worked with TIME Incredible India campaign wherein two of my photos were selected in the top 100 photos of India for the year 2018. After that, I worked with some brands such as OnePlus as a mentor for one of their photography workshops. I worked with brands like Hotstar, Daniel Wellington, etc. for social media content as well. My biggest achievement was the publication of my photos in Rajasthan Tourism, Uttar Pradesh Tourism, History TV18, Natgeo, etc. to name a few.

WallMag: What value do portraits have in travel photography?

Portraits of the local people of the respective place concerned are so valuable! They carry the essence of the place, the culture, the feeling, everything in a single frame. Portraits are, and will always be one of the best things to create in photography.

WallMag: What are the biggest challenges you’ve faced to get the photo you want?

I have been beaten up for a photo during Holi in Matura-Vrindavan, because I was wearing my slippers while standing inside the temple! It was rough. I got my shot though!Other common challenges include the passing away of moments when you are trying to frame a particular thing and it won't come as you have pictured. I waited once for more than an hour to frame perfect shot, which was really tiring but, rewarding in the end!

WallMag: What camera(s) do you use on your travels? Do you have a favorite travel camera bag?

I use Sony Alpha A6000 along with a 18-105mm f/4 lens. That's my only kit. I have an Amazonbasics camera bag that I use all the time.

WallMag: What have been your top 3 places to photograph so far and why?

1. Jaipur, because it has so much to offer and the architecture and monuments are simply majestic. The views you get there are awe-inspiring and is relatively easier to find great frames.2. Varanasi, because it has a different aura altogether. There are frames everywhere and even if you don't click pictures, you get to learn a lot as a traveler and as a human being.3. Delhi, because there are many genres and varied places that you can explore and hone your skills as a photographer. You get to learn from the people here.

WallMag: Traveling to exotic locations is the glamorous side of travel photography. Tell us a bit about the business and marketing side — once you’re back from your travels, how do you spend your time?

Once I come back from my travels, I usually do a review of all the pictures that I have clicked on that particular travel. I segregate and group the images according to the place and type. Along with this, I keep on working on my social media as well as real world projects. I tend to post pictures not just on Instagram but at various channels.

WallMag: Is there anything you would like to share with our readers?

Getting fame and everything on social media is a great morale boost-up for anyone, but as a true artist, never attach your emotions to any social media and never let it hamper your work and life. Keep clicking, keep learning, keep exploring!
