WallMag: Tell our readers a bit about Divina Rikhye.
I’m a Mumbai-based photographer. My work mainly consists of portrait and fashion photography and has appeared in a few publications. Having had experience under commercial and creative photographer Rohan Shrestha at a very young age, I pursued my love for photography further and went ahead to study in New York and Milan. I believe in looking at the world through various eyes.
WallMag: When it came to starting out in photography, what was your biggest focus?
I think my main focus was to shoot portraits. When I first started out, trying new lighting techniques always fascinated me, black and white especially. Experimenting a lot with different lighting techniques for portraits. Recently I have been doing more creative fashion work.
WallMag: How did you discover your style of photography? How would you describe your style?
I discovered my style of photography while working with Rohan Shrestha. His work inspired and evolved me a lot. Continuing that I think I would describe my style as a breath of fresh air. It's young & vibrant.
WallMag: You’ve clearly worked with a wide range of models, what tips can you recommend to people looking to expand their portfolio?
I would say keep reaching out to people, keep putting your work up there so people understand your style and connect to you for the same.
WallMag: Fashion photography allows for quite a bit of experimentation. What inspires you?
I take a lot of inspiration from photographers like Peter Lindbergh and Helmut Newton. Their work fascinates me. I recently did a fashion photography course in Milan. I take a lot of inspiration from the city & my teachers. Travelling for me is invigorating.
WallMag: When you’re working with a model, how important is communication during a shoot?
I feel its important meeting the model before the day of the shoot and understanding the vibe so its easier for them to feel comfortable during the shoot. Just letting them be who they are and letting it reflect through your images.
