The Dominican Republic is the second largest Island in the Caribbean after Cuba. The Dominican Republic is a paradise for music and dance lovers where Merengue(a great fusion of European and African musical elements) is the most popular form of music. Santo Domingo(the capital city of Dominican Republic), is one of the earliest European settlements in the Caribbean. It has impressive monasteries, museums, and clean, cobblestone streets. Beyond the capital, much of the Dominican Republic is rural. The Dominican Republic is known as the "Breadbasket of the Caribbean" because it grows farms plus catches almost everything that's served for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Dominican Republic has some white sand beaches shaded by rows of palm trees as well. Other parts of the coastline are lined dramatically with rocky cliffs, wind-swept dunes & untroubled mangrove lagoons.
