Indonesia, a country of thousands of volcanic islands in Southeast Asia, is home to hundreds of ethnic groups that speak many languages. It is known to shelter elephants, orangutans and tigers from beaches, volcanoes, Komodo dragons and jungles. The dynamic, vast capital of Indonesia, Jakarta, and the town of Yogyakarta, renowned for gamelan music and traditional puppetry, are located on Java Island.
Indonesia's climate, lying along the equator, tends to be comparatively even throughout the year. Indonesia has two seasons with no summer or winter extremes — a humid season and a dry season. The dry season falls from April to October with the wet season between November and March for most of Indonesia. The climate in Indonesia is almost completely tropical, dominated by the tropical rainforest climate found on every significant Indonesian island.
