How did your journey into photography begin?
My photography journey began during my college days. I always had a passion for photography, but coming from a traditional family and being a girl, responsibilities came first. I set my dreams aside to focus on my studies, completed my engineering degree, started my career, got married, and eventually became a mother. When I looked at my son for the first time, it brought back memories of my old days and the dreams I had once left behind. That little moment rekindled something inside me. I took my camera out again, but this time, I bought my very first DSLR camera. And from that day onward, I started living for myself through my camera. Photography became more than just a hobby—it became a way of expressing myself, capturing emotions, and rediscovering the dreams I had once put on hold. Every click reminds me that it's never too late to follow your passion.
When was the first time you felt you had captured a truly meaningful image?
During my Spiti trip just after corona time in 2021.
How has your photography style evolved over the years?
My photography style has evolved along with my life. In the beginning, I was simply fascinated by capturing beautiful moments and experimenting with different perspectives. However, after becoming a mother and returning to photography after many years, my approach changed completely. Today, I am drawn to storytelling and emotions. Motherhood taught me to appreciate the little details, genuine expressions, and fleeting moments that often go unnoticed. My style has become more natural, candid, and emotion-driven. I believe photographs should not only look beautiful but also preserve memories and feelings that can be cherished for a lifetime. Over the years, photography has become more than just a creative passion for me—it has become a way of seeing life with gratitude and celebrating everyday moments. Every image I create reflects not only my artistic growth but also the journey of rediscovering myself through my camera.
What motivates you to pursue storytelling through your lens?
What motivates me to pursue storytelling through my camera is the people I meet and the stories they carry. Whenever I photograph someone, I don't just see a subject—I see a life, a journey, and experiences that deserve to be heard. India is home to such diverse cultures, traditions, and communities, many of which remain unknown to the world and sometimes even to our own people. Through my travels and interactions, I discover fascinating stories that often leave me amazed. When I come back and share these stories with others, I often hear them say, “Oh, does something like this really exist in our country?” Those moments inspire me the most. They remind me that photography is not just about creating beautiful images; it's about preserving cultures, giving voice to people, and connecting others with stories they might never have known. For me, the camera is a bridge between people and their untold stories. That's what truly drives me as a storyteller.
What portrait photo best captures the essence of a person you've photographed?
These photographs are more than portraits—they are stories of people, traditions, and cultures that I have been fortunate to discover. Before picking up my camera, I take time to listen, connect, and learn from the people I meet. Every smile, wrinkle, ornament, and tattoo carries a history of its own. What inspires me most is sharing these untold stories and seeing people's amazement when they realize the incredible cultural diversity that exists within our own country. Through my camera, I strive to preserve heritage, celebrate humanity, and tell stories that deserve to be remembered.
Can you share a candid moment you captured that reveals a hidden truth or emotion?
I captured this candid moment during the Kandali Festival, a celebration that takes place only once every twelve years. What drew me to this scene was the young girl standing quietly amidst the movement and rituals unfolding around her. I chose to frame her within the procession to highlight the contrast between innocence and tradition, and to show how cultural heritage is passed from one generation to the next. This image resonates with me because it represents more than a festival—it tells a story of identity, continuity, and the beauty of preserving traditions that are rarely witnessed. Being able to document such a fleeting moment felt like a privilege and a reminder of why I pursue storytelling through my camera.
What photo best represents the 'essence' you mentioned in your bio?
For me, the soul of a photograph lies in what is already present—the emotions, expressions, traditions, and the play of light. I use composition and genuine moments to tell the story, allowing the authenticity of the people and their culture to speak for itself.
Walk us through a before-and-after comparison of a photo you edited minimally.
I chose to keep the editing minimal because I wanted the authenticity of the moment to remain intact. The emotions, expressions, traditional elements, and the interplay of light were already telling the story I wanted to convey. I believe that documentary and cultural photographs are most powerful when they stay true to reality. Rather than altering the scene, I used only subtle adjustments to enhance what was already there. For me, preserving the honesty of the moment is more important than creating perfection. I want viewers to connect with the people, their traditions, and the emotions within the frame—not with the editing behind it.
Tell us about a photo taken in challenging lighting conditions that you're proud of.

What photo represents a ritual or tradition you have documented?
I approached this ritual with patience and respect, choosing to observe rather than interfere. My intention was not to sensationalize the moment, but to honor its spiritual and cultural significance. By allowing the ritual to unfold naturally, I was able to capture its intensity while preserving the dignity and devotion of those involved.
