Lençóis Maranhenses National Park is a sandy area with sloping dunes that incorporates lagoons. Because of their angle, area, and depth, each water formation has a different, breathtaking color, ranging from deep blue to transparent green and even dark indigo. These blue-green freshwater lagoons are formed by the 1194 to 1524 millimeters of rain that falls each year. It looks like a unique type of desert. In fact, it’s more like an endless piece of pure white, almost flat land. It is 580 square miles of sand dunes, with frequent rain and almost zero vegetation. This area receives so much rain because it is located close to the Amazon Basin.
