Nature Through My Lens: An Interview with Photographer Amit Majumder

Nature Through My Lens: An Interview with Photographer Amit Majumder

How did your journey in nature and landscape photography begin?

My journey started when I traveled across India for work. I was captivated by the beautiful landscapes, diverse nature, and scenic views I encountered along the way. Those early experiences sparked a deep appreciation for the natural world, and I began capturing moments that resonated with me. Over time, what started as casual snapshots turned into a passionate pursuit of landscape photography.

What was the first landscape photo that made you feel truly proud?

The first photo that filled me with pride was taken in 2002 at Bhatkal Lake. It featured a family with a young child, set against the serene backdrop of the lake. That image holds a special place in my heart because it marked the beginning of my photographic journey and reminded me of the beauty in simple, everyday moments.

How has your approach to capturing nature evolved over the years?

Over the years, my approach has evolved significantly. Initially, I would take photos spontaneously during vacations. Now, I plan my shoots more thoughtfully, experimenting with different techniques, compositions, and lighting conditions. I strive to tell a story through each image, whether it's the play of light on a landscape or the intricate details of a scene. This evolution has made my work more intentional and rewarding.

What is the most challenging location you've ever photographed?

I haven't encountered a location that I would consider extremely challenging yet. Every place offers its own unique set of conditions, and I try to adapt and make the best of whatever situation I find myself in. Perhaps in the future, I'll face a truly demanding environment that tests my skills further.

What are some of your favorite landscape photos that you've captured?

These images vividly capture all possible areas of the landscapes I've explored, from the grandeur of Mysore Palace to the ancient ruins of Hampi, the serene Shanta Durga Temple in Goa, and the rustic roads of Masinagudi. Each photo holds a memory and a story that I'm proud to share.

What makes the lighting in your favorite shot so special, and how did you capture it?

Reels and Frames

The lighting in this photo is special because it was captured during sunset in Goa. The golden hour light created a warm, magical glow over the scene. I saw a speedboat cutting through the water, and the combination of the setting sun and the boat's motion made for a perfect photo opportunity. I quickly composed the shot and clicked, freezing that fleeting moment of beauty.

For this edit, I used Adobe Lightroom Classic. I started by highlighting the key elements of the image, then increased the contrast to make the details pop. I also adjusted the temperature to give the photo a warmer, more inviting tone. The goal was to enhance the natural beauty without making it look overly processed.

How would you describe your photography style based on a photo that represents your unique approach?

Reels and Frames

My photography style is characterized by bright, open blue skies filled with natural light, which gives an uplifting and serene feel to my images. I aim to capture the essence of a place in its most authentic and beautiful form, often focusing on the interplay of light and shadow to create depth and emotion.
