"Those in between moments are what I go for"- Ridhika Mehra

"Those in between moments are what I go for"- Ridhika Mehra

WallMag: Please tell our readers a bit about yourself.

My name is Ridhika Mehra, I am a fashion, portrait and editorial photographer. I am based in Mumbai, India and have been in the business for a little over two years now.

WallMag: What is your background and how did you become involved with photography?

I have actually done my graduation in fashion design after which I decided to give the creative direction a try. It was during my days as an art assistant that my interest in photography increased because of working on so many photoshoots. I have always had an inclination towards photography since school days but I gave it a serious shot only two years ago and somehow it led me to where I am today!

WallMag: Mostly you are working with people, what is the secret behind to get a good expression or pose from them?

When I shoot a person I usually give them some time to warm up with the camera and me. I've realised that only if there is some connection with me the subject feels free enough to be themselves and that helps in creating something amazing. I ask them to just vibe with the music and forget about me while I try to capture those in-between moments.

WallMag: You’ve clearly worked with a wide range of models, what tips can you recommend to people looking to expand their portfolio?

I believe a model should shoot all the time! It's like any other field, you practise as much as you can. I strongly recommend working with different photographers and not just one. Everyone has a different style and trying to fit into each one's style is something that really helps one grow.

WallMag: How much equipment do you typically bring to a photo-shoot?

I usually carry my camera, a 50mm (sometimes a 24-70 or a 100mm), a white fabric background and definitely speakers! My current go-to light is Siros 400.

WallMag: What kind of impact do you hope to make in the fashion world in the next 10-15 years?

In the next 10-15 years, I wish to create images that make people feel something. I always wanted to try to emote with my work and I wish to build on that and create work that seems personal to each person somehow. Also, I definitely want to create a mark in the fashion industry with my work, I love shooting editorials and hope that my work brings about some change!

WallMag: Share 5 of your shots that have helped you in shaping your career.
