A National Stage Is Now Open
Entries are now open for the WallMag Artist of the Year Awards 2026 — a national recognition for the people who make India look like India, and the broadest art award we have put our name to. It is not built around one medium, one tradition, or one kind of training. It is built around the idea that the work itself deserves to be seen, whether it was made in a studio, a hostel room, or a family workshop three generations old.
This is a celebration first and a competition second. The craft is the point: the decades behind a steady Madhubani line, the control behind a watercolour that cannot be corrected, the patience behind a carving that takes a month. Submissions are live from today and close on 5 November 2026.
About the Award
The Artist of the Year Awards treat fine art, digital art and traditional craft as one field, because the people making them already do. The painter, the illustrator working to a client brief, the 3D artist, the potter, the Pattachitra scroll-maker, the tattoo artist and the muralist are all doing the same thing: putting something in front of a stranger and asking them to look. Six groups, 41 categories, no gatekeeping by gallery history.
Recognition here is deliberately two-sided. Every entry is seen by the WallMag creator community, whose votes decide the Top 100 finalists. Only then does an expert art jury begin its work, reviewing those hundred to choose the Top 3. Community voting alone would reward whoever arrives with the largest audience. A jury alone would be opaque. Together they produce something an artist can put on a profile and a stranger can reason about.
For winners and finalists, the outcome is national visibility, partner-brand rewards, a place in WallMag Creator Magazine, and a recognition certificate that carries a verifiable process behind it.
Who It's For
Any creator based in India, over eighteen. That is the whole eligibility bar. Hobbyist or professional, trained or self-taught, with a following or without one.
- Painters in oil, acrylic and watercolour, and portrait, landscape and abstract artists.
- Pencil, charcoal and pen-and-ink artists, and realists working at any scale.
- Digital painters, illustrators, character and concept artists, 3D artists and animators.
- Sculptors in clay, stone, metal, wood, resin and mixed media, and installation artists.
- Practitioners of Madhubani, Warli, Pattachitra, Gond, Kalamkari, Tanjore, miniature and rangoli traditions.
- Calligraphers, potters, textile artists, tattoo artists and muralists.
If you work in a folk tradition that gets called craft rather than art, this one was written with you in mind.
What We're Excited to See
We are excited about art you conceived and made by hand or by tool and fully own — any medium, any scale, any tradition. Photograph physical work flat and straight on, in even daylight, with the full piece in frame and no crop. Do not add filters or borders — the jury is looking at the artwork, not the photo treatment.
Three principles govern every submission:
- Authentic ownership: every entry must be made and fully owned by you.
- Integrity first: AI-generated, stock-licensed, traced or plagiarised work is disqualified without refund.
- Quality over budget: submit at the highest quality you can, but production spend is never the judging criterion.

You may submit up to five entries. Enter each under the category that fits it best — 41 categories across 6 groups:

If your work sits between two of these, pick the closest one and say so in your entry description. We read every submission before it goes to the panel.
