What initially sparked your interest in photography, and how did you transition into iPhone photography?
My interest in photography began with a simple desire to preserve beautiful moments and places that caught my attention. Whether it was dramatic skies, landscapes, reflections, or everyday scenes, I found myself constantly looking for unique perspectives that others might overlook. As photography became a passion, I realized that creativity matters more than expensive equipment. This led me to explore iPhone photography, where I discovered the freedom to capture spontaneous moments anytime and anywhere. Over time, I developed a style focused on landscapes, nature, travel experiences, weather phenomena, and visual storytelling. What started as a hobby gradually turned into a creative journey of sharing stories through images. Today, through Ritified, I aim to showcase the beauty hidden in ordinary moments and inspire others to see the world differently through the lens of a smartphone.
Can you recall the first moment you captured with your iPhone that made you realize its potential for professional-quality photos?
One of the earliest moments that made me realize the power of iPhone photography was when I captured a sunset through a cluster of trees. The warm orange glow of the sun framed between the branches created a scene that looked far more dramatic and professional than I expected from a smartphone camera (I was using a Nexus 6P at that time). When I reviewed the image, I was amazed by the colors, details, and mood it captured. That photograph changed my perspective completely. It made me realize that photography is not only about having expensive equipment but also about observation, timing, composition, and creativity. From that moment on, I began exploring iPhone photography more seriously and started documenting the world around me through my own unique perspective.
How has your approach to photography evolved since you started using your iPhone as your primary camera?
When I first started using a smartphone for photography—first the Nexus 6P, then an iPhone—my focus was mainly on capturing beautiful moments and scenes that caught my attention. Over time, my approach evolved from simply taking pictures to intentionally creating images that tell a story and evoke emotions. The convenience of always having a capable camera with me encouraged me to observe my surroundings more carefully and look for unique compositions, lighting conditions, reflections, patterns, and fleeting moments that others might miss. I began experimenting with different perspectives, editing techniques, and creative styles to bring my vision to life. Today, photography is no longer just about documenting what I see. It is about capturing the mood, beauty, and emotion of a moment. The iPhone has taught me that powerful images come from creativity, patience, and observation rather than the equipment itself.
What do you find most rewarding about capturing landscapes and nature through your iPhone lens?
What I find most rewarding about capturing landscapes and nature through my iPhone is the opportunity to preserve moments that are often brief and ever-changing. A colorful sunset, dramatic clouds, a rainbow after the rain, or a perfect reflection can last only a few minutes, and being able to capture those moments feels incredibly fulfilling. I also enjoy the challenge of finding beauty in ordinary surroundings and presenting it from a unique perspective. Nature constantly reminds me to slow down, observe, and appreciate details that are easy to overlook in our busy lives. The fact that I can create meaningful and visually striking images using a device that is always with me makes the experience even more special. It reinforces my belief that great photography comes from vision, timing, and creativity rather than the camera itself.
What's the story behind this photo that best represents your skill in capturing dramatic skies or weather phenomena?
This photograph was one of those rare moments where nature seemed to present two beautiful scenes at once. On one side, the sky was glowing with warm golden-hour light, while on the other, a vibrant rainbow stretched across the clouds after a passing rain shower. The contrast between sunlight and rain created a dramatic and unforgettable atmosphere. What drew me to capture this moment was how quickly it was changing. I knew that within minutes, the light, colors, and rainbow could disappear. Standing there, I felt a sense of awe at nature's ability to create such a perfect balance of light, color, and emotion. Photography allows me to preserve these fleeting moments, and this image reminds me why I love landscape and sky photography. It captures the beauty, unpredictability, and magic that nature offers when we take the time to notice it.
What techniques do you use to achieve stunning reflections in your iPhone photography?
I use reflective surfaces, careful composition, and creative angles to capture reflections that add depth, symmetry, and visual impact to my photographs. By positioning myself low to the ground or using puddles, glass, or water bodies, I can create mirrored effects that transform ordinary scenes into something extraordinary. Patience is key—waiting for the right light and minimal disturbance on the water's surface helps achieve crisp, clear reflections.
What narrative or emotion were you trying to convey in that image that exemplifies visual storytelling through everyday moments?
Through this image, I wanted to capture the innocence and wonder of childhood. The silhouette and shadow symbolize growth, imagination, and the beautiful journey of discovering the world. The warm golden-hour light adds a sense of comfort, hope, and nostalgia, reminding us how quickly these precious moments pass. To me, the photograph is a reflection of love, memories, and the quiet beauty found in everyday family moments.
Explain how you composed the shot that demonstrates your mastery of composition and perspective in landscape photography.
These two photographs reflect my approach to landscape photography through composition, perspective, and storytelling. The train-window image transforms an everyday travel moment into a framed view of the world, using the window as a natural compositional element that draws the viewer into the scene. It represents the excitement of the journey and the beauty discovered along the way. The Ladakh landscape, on the other hand, captures the grandeur and scale of nature. The vast mountains, layered terrain, and open skies create a sense of depth and perspective that highlights the raw magnificence of the region. Together, these images tell a story of exploration—from witnessing beauty through a small window to standing before some of the world's most breathtaking landscapes. They reflect my belief that powerful photography is not just about the destination, but also about the experiences and perspectives gained throughout the journey.
What editing tools or apps do you prefer, and why did you choose those edits for this before-and-after image?
I primarily use Apple's built-in Photos editing tools. My editing process focuses on adjusting brilliance, exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, vibrance, and warmth to enhance the image while preserving its natural look. I prefer subtle edits that stay true to the original scene rather than heavily altering the photograph. For this image, I wanted to bring out the details in the shadows and enhance the colors without making it look overprocessed.
How does travel influence your photography style and choice of subjects?
Travel has a significant influence on my photography by exposing me to diverse landscapes, cultures, and perspectives. Every destination offers unique stories, colors, and moments that inspire me to look at the world differently. It has naturally drawn me toward landscapes, nature, reflections, and candid travel moments, helping me develop a style that focuses on storytelling, emotion, and the beauty of everyday experiences. This particular photo from my travels captures the essence of a place—its light, atmosphere, and the feeling of being there.
What technical or creative elements in this photo highlight the capabilities of iPhone photography?
This image highlights the iPhone's ability to capture fine details, vibrant colors, and a wide dynamic range even in a complex urban environment. The way it renders artificial lights, preserves shadow details, and maintains clarity throughout the frame demonstrates the power of modern smartphone photography. Creatively, the composition, lighting, and atmosphere come together to create an image that feels immersive and professional while being captured entirely on an iPhone. It challenges the notion that you need a traditional camera to produce high-quality, impactful photographs.
