Through the Lens of Vedika Goyal: A Storyteller's Journey

Through the Lens of Vedika Goyal: A Storyteller's Journey

How did your journey as a storyteller begin?

My journey as a storyteller didn't begin at a specific point—it's always been a part of me. I've always been someone who observes the world a little differently. Even the simplest conversations turn into stories in my mind. It started with journaling, where I'd write about my day as if it were a story. During the lockdown, I picked up my old Sony 4x Optical Zoom camera and started taking pictures. That's when I realized photography, just like writing, could become another medium to express my thoughts and my point of view.

What was the first moment you realized you could express your perspective through photography?

When I started showing my photos to my friends and family, I would always tell them the story behind them—what I saw, why I clicked that moment, and the perspective I wanted to share. Later, when I started posting them on social media, I kept my identity hidden for years. I wanted people to connect with the photographs first, before knowing the person behind them.

How has your experience in visual storytelling grown over the years?

Every year, my experience in visual storytelling grows alongside me. As I explore, learn, and experiment, my way of seeing the world keeps evolving. That growth shapes my thought process, and it finds its way into every photograph, video, and story I create.

What personal experience has most shaped your unique perspective as a creator?

Growing up, I was always an average student. But these creative mediums—especially visual storytelling—changed how people saw me. Through photography, videos, and expressing my thoughts creatively, people began to know me for my perspective. It wasn't just recognition; it gave me a sense of belonging. For the first time, I felt I had something that was truly mine—my own way of seeing the world and telling its stories.

What photo best represents your storytelling through photography, and what's the story behind it?

Reels and Frames

This photograph depicts that we're all caught in a loop, following the same routine every day. It can often feel like we're walking through it alone, but sometimes the universe sends us quiet signs that we're not. The light in this photograph says it all.

What message or emotion did you intend to convey in the video you uploaded?

In this video, I wanted to convey that sometimes there's so much going on inside your head. Everything feels messy, and you have so much you want to say, but you can't find the right words to express what's happening within you. It's okay to choose silence sometimes. It's okay if some days, you don't know how to express what's going on inside your mind.

Walk us through a specific editing technique you used in your best video editing work.

It's a paper cut shoot and edit, so I used motion graphic style to showcase this project work for one of my clients.

Share a photo that captures a moment you think is often overlooked by others, and tell us what makes it special.

Reels and Frames

This photo is very close to my heart because I went to one street shop, and this girl is just peeking from that little corner and smiling, just like she is enjoying our presence. I think that shop is on the footpath, so not so many visitors come there. She was just enjoying the people around and wanted to play. When I clicked her picture, she was so happy, as if she felt special that day. It just reminds me of the innocence in childhood that we all had once in our lives.

What does your creative process look like in that behind-the-scenes photo?

Reels and Frames

The photo I uploaded is of me shooting some angles for my content, where I use myself only for the shots. The process is hectic because you need to be a multitasker—set up, act, adjust everything—but then it's kind of enjoyable since you know how the result will look like.

How does your writing enhance the visual story you told in that sample?

This is one of the scripts I wrote for a personal short film. Writing also enhances my work style because I always get clarity on what needs to be done and how I will deliver the output. Writing boosts my creativity and helps me with clarity.

What does this work reveal about you that your audience might not know?

I love my work because I enjoy doing it, and to be honest, if I don't enjoy doing it, I won't be great at it. So, I think my humorous side is what my audience might not know.
