How did your journey in photography begin?
It all started quite simply, really—with a mobile phone. I used to take photographs with my phone, capturing whatever caught my eye. Then, I decided to take a step forward and bought a Nikon camera, which opened up a whole new world of possibilities for me.
What was the first moment you realized photography was your passion?
Honestly, there wasn't a single, dramatic moment of realization. From the very beginning, I just loved taking photos. Whether it was with my mobile camera or my Nikon, the joy of capturing a moment was always there. That love has never faded, and it continues to drive me today.
How has your photography style or approach evolved over the years?
When I first started using a camera, I was like a sponge, eager to absorb everything. I experimented with different techniques, compositions, and subjects. This constant exploration has helped me grow, and I believe I'm now able to take much better and more meaningful photographs than I could before.
Who or what has been your biggest inspiration in photography?
American photographer Scott Kelby and the Indian wildlife photographer Sudhir Shivaram have been huge influences on my work. Their dedication, knowledge, and stunning imagery have inspired me to push my own boundaries and keep learning.
Tell us about a photo that represents your best work and what makes it special.
This photograph is of a painted stork, and it holds a very special place in my heart. It had been a long-time dream of mine to capture one in such a beautiful, graceful pose. When I finally saw it and clicked the shutter, I felt an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and joy.
Walk us through a photo that shows an edited versus unedited version—what editing choices did you make?
I processed the edited version in Lightroom. The main focus was on enhancing the colors and fine-tuning the exposure to bring out the natural beauty of the scene. I believe in subtle adjustments that stay true to the original moment.
What was the story behind this unique Theyyam photograph you captured?
This photo is of the Theyyam ritual, a traditional art form usually performed in temples in the Kannur and Kasaragod districts of Kerala. One day, it came to a temple in my own hometown, completely unexpectedly. I was just in the right place at the right time, and I'm glad I could capture this vibrant cultural moment.
What does your typical setup look like during a shoot?
Before I start shooting, I always make sure my camera is ready: I adjust the lens focus, set the correct ISO, aperture, and white balance. It's all about preparation so that when the perfect moment arrives, I'm ready to capture it without missing a beat.
How would you describe your current photography style?
I don't think I've mastered everything yet—I still have so much to learn. I see myself as a perpetual student of photography. My style is still evolving, and I'm open to new ideas and techniques with every click of the shutter.
