Through the Lens of Silence: An Interview with Filmmaker and Photographer Neha Sharma

Through the Lens of Silence: An Interview with Filmmaker and Photographer Neha Sharma

How did your journey as a filmmaker and director begin?

My journey began with writing stories and painting. I am also a media student, which helped me channel my creative passions into filmmaking.

When was the first time you realized storytelling through film was your passion?

It hit me when I started listening to Radio Mirchi's Sunday Suspense—it was so gripping and inspiring that I knew I wanted to tell stories through film.

How has your experience grown over the years, from your first project to your most recent one?

It has been a fantastic experience. I've met so many people, visited new places, and documented stories that matter. Each project taught me something new.

What unique perspective do you bring to your photography and filmmaking work?

I focus on connecting with the soul rather than just clicking a button. For me, it's about capturing the essence of the subject.

The silence of nature. Today's world is full of chaos and competition. That's why I choose peace and silence while clicking my images—to represent the rhythm of nature.

I used Adobe Photoshop 19 for color grading, portrait retouch, masking, and color balance. These techniques help correct, enhance, and present the image to the audience in the best possible way.

What was the most challenging aspect of the production you shared? How did you overcome it?

The rain was the most challenging aspect—I had to keep an umbrella in one hand and click images with the other. But I managed by staying patient and adapting to the conditions.

Describe the scene you storyboarded – what inspired it?

The storyboard is titled "The Process of a Photographer." It outlines the steps from observation to final presentation: observing, visualizing, choosing position, selecting lens, adjusting camera settings, composing the frame, checking light, focusing, waiting for the right moment, pressing the shutter, reviewing the image, post-processing, and finally displaying the photograph in an exhibition. I was inspired by the meticulous journey every photographer goes through to create a meaningful image.

The Ganga aarti of Varanasi was another challenging situation for me. That day, I woke up early in the morning when it was very cold and almost nothing could be seen. I worked till midday to capture the real vibes of the old city, Kashi.
