Why We Launched This Award
Photojournalism is the hardest form to practise and the hardest to get paid for. The people doing it well in India are often working alone, without a masthead behind them, documenting their own city at their own cost. Their pictures carry real weight and almost no reach. We launched this award because that imbalance is worth correcting โ an open, transparently scored competition where a single photographer with a story and a camera is judged on exactly the same terms as anyone else.
How Are Finalists Selected?
Every entry was scored by the WallMag community. Over the entry window, creators, peers and readers voted on the work itself, and those votes decided this shortlist โ nothing else. The 100 finalists below are the ones the community put forward. No editor overruled that, and no entry was advanced because of a follower count.

How Are Winners Decided?
This is where our jury joins in. From today, an independent panel scores the shortlist, and their evaluation carries 80% of the final standing while community votes carry the remaining 20%. Voting stays open while the jury works, so the community still has a real say in who takes the top three.

After the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat, Banaras slowly began to settle into the night. While photographing the remaining glimpses of the ghat, I noticed a man lighting a small lamp in the darkness. The warm flame briefly illuminated the moment, creating a striking contrast between light and night. I captured the image instinctively, as the lamp felt like the final trace of light left behind after the Aarti.
