Why We Launched This Award
Wildlife photography asks for patience, respect, and a deep love of the wild β and Indiaβs photographers answer that call in extraordinary ways. We launched the WallMag Wildlife Photography Awards 2026 to give those photographers a real stage: a place where a single honest frame of the natural world can stand beside the finest wildlife work in the country and be truly seen.
How Are Finalists Selected?
These finalists were chosen by the community. Every project earns a score from the votes it receives, measured against the highest-scoring project in the award; we then rank every creator by their single strongest project, and the top 100 become finalists. No jury has voted yet β this Top 100 is the communityβs verdict alone.

Capturing the Untamed Beauty of the Wild πΏ | Indian rat snake | Darash Snake (দাΰ¦ΰ¦‘ΰ¦Όΰ¦Ύΰ¦Ά ΰ¦Έΰ¦Ύΰ¦ͺ) | Ptyas mucosa, commonly known as the Oriental rat snake,[2] or Indian rat snake,[4] is a common non-venomous species of colubrid snake found in parts of South and Southeast Asia. Dhamans are large snakes. Typical mature total length is around 1.5 to 1.95 m (4 ft 11 in to 6 ft 5 in) though some exceed 2 m (6 ft 7 in). The record length for this species was 3.7 m (12 ft 2 in), second only to their cousin Ptyas carinata among living colubrid snakes.[5][6] Despite their large size, oriental ratsnakes are usually quite slender with even a specimen of 2 m (6 ft 7 in) commonly measuring 4 to 6 cm (1.6 to 2.4 in) only around in diameter[which?].[7] Furthermore, the average weight of ratsnakes caught in Java was around 877 to 940 g (1.933 to 2.072 lb), though larger males of over 2.3 m (7 ft 7 in) (which average mildly larger of the two sexes in the species) may easily weigh over 2.5 kg (5.5 lb).[8] Their color varies from pale browns in dry regions to nearly black in moist forest areas. Tiger Cubs in Play, Umred - Protecting them for Future
I captured this moment deep inside the forests of Umred Karhandla. These are the cubs of the famous F2 tigress, locked in what looks like a playful tussle. But itβs actually a serious practice session. These sibling rivalries are how they build the strength and instincts they will need to survive as future apex predators. Right now, there are fewer than 4,000 tigers left in the wild, which makes their future incredibly fragile. For me, this isn't just another wildlife photograph; itβs a wake-up call. We have a shared responsibility to protect their habitat. If we donβt act now, our kids and grandkids will only ever see these magnificent animals as digital images on their screens, rather than living free in the wild where they belong. This phot was taken on an April morning in Panna. The tigress P-142 had just made a kill. It was a sambar stag. As she was dragging the kill, she briefly stopped in the shadow of a tree for a quick breather. The shadow of the tree gave her an appearance that was a mix of light and dark. Here's a natural and polished English version of your paragraph: I captured this photograph in Ooty, in the Nilgiris, during an early morning photo walk. It was a completely unexpected moment. As I was walking through the landscape, I suddenly noticed a jackal. It looked at me for a brief moment, got startled, and immediately started running away. Instinctively, I grabbed my camera and quickly captured the scene. What makes this photograph special is the composition. In the background, you can see the Mukurthi Peak is considered one of the highest mountain highest peak in Nilgiris, located in the Mukurthi National Park. In the foreground, there's a beautiful blanket of clouds stretching across the valley. This kind of cloud formation is usually seen during November and December and lasts for about two to three months, especially in the early mornings. I was fortunate to capture this scene during the first golden hour of the day, which gave the landscape a warm and magical light. That's what makes this photograph so memorable to me.

As we drove up a slope we spotted this Leopardess sitting beautifully balanced on a branch of a dry tree. She was napping for about 15 minutes before she woke up, calmly looked at us for a bit, stretching herself and deciding to get off the tree.

As a student of biochemistry with a deep interest in biodiversity and conservation, I have always been fascinated by the remarkable adaptations, behaviors, and ecological roles of wild animals. This photograph was captured at the National Zoological Park, New Delhi, during one of my visits to observe and appreciate wildlife. Rather than rushing to take photographs, I spent time quietly watching the Bengal fox from a distance, allowing it to behave naturally. After several minutes of patient observation, it briefly turned toward my camera with an alert yet peaceful expression. In that fleeting moment, I captured not just an image, but a glimpse of its quiet strength and natural elegance. To me, The Elusive Bengal Fox is more than a wildlife portrait. It represents curiosity, patience, and the silent connection that can exist between humans and animals when we choose to observe with respect. The experience reinforced my belief that photography has the power to inspire people to look beyond appearances and appreciate the incredible diversity of life around us. Pink in the Concrete Jungle.
As summer settles over the Navi Mumbai creek near Seawoods and the monsoon begins to approach, these fleeting visitors arrive during the months of May and June, painting the waters with shades of pink against the fading evening light and the backdrop of an ever-expanding concrete jungle. Despite the weekend crowds gathering along the waterfront, a few flamingos continue feeding close to the shore with quiet grace, seemingly unfazed by the city's presence, while larger flocks remain distant, favouring the quieter waters of the creek. Yet their arrival has become increasingly unpredictable in recent years. Shrinking habitats, mounting urban pressure, and a lack of awareness about the fragile ecosystem they depend upon serve as a reminder that these seasonal visitors cannot be taken for granted. Their annual return is both a spectacle and a responsibility. Through this series, I hope to preserve the memory of a remarkable natural phenomenonβone that could one day be lost unless meaningful conservation efforts keep pace with the relentless growth of the surrounding city.

The Pause Before the Chase
This photograph captures a pack of Indian wild dogs (Dholes) resting in a waterhole during a hot afternoon safari. It was taken on my third safari, a moment that stood out not because of action, but because of what it revealed about these remarkable predators. Dholes are among the most efficient social hunters in the wild. Their success depends on teamwork, communication, stamina, and strong pack bonds. Before the next hunt, the entire pack had gathered in the cool water, conserving energy and recovering from the heat. What appeared to be a simple moment of rest was, in reality, an important part of their survival strategy. As a Zoology student, I am fascinated by the behavioural ecology of social carnivores. Watching this pack together highlighted the cooperation that makes dholes such successful hunters. Every individual plays a role, and their collective behaviour often achieves what a single predator cannot. I chose this image because it tells a quieter story of wildlifeβone that goes beyond dramatic hunts and focuses on the social dynamics, energy management, and intelligence that shape life in the wild. For me, it serves as a reminder that understanding animal behaviour is just as rewarding as witnessing action. This photograph was taken in natural conditions without disturbing the animals, allowing me to document an authentic moment in their daily lives.

This photograph captures the mesmerizing evening murmuration of rosy starlings against the warm glow of a setting sun. As the flock prepared to return to its roost, thousands of birds moved in remarkable synchrony, constantly changing shape and direction while maintaining perfect coordination. Their collective flight created an ever-evolving pattern that lasted only a few fleeting moments. To convey the rhythm and fluidity of this natural phenomenon, I used the multiple exposure technique. Rather than freezing a single instant, multiple exposures allowed successive moments of the birdsβ flight to merge into one frame, revealing the graceful flow and continuity of their movement. The layered silhouettes create a visual narrative that reflects both the energy of the murmuration and the harmony within the flock. The warm colors of the sunset provide a striking contrast to the dark forms of the birds, enhancing the sense of depth and atmosphere while emphasizing the transition from day to night. Every element in the composition was captured in the field, requiring patience, careful observation, and precise timing to preserve the authenticity of the moment. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, this image highlights the beauty of collective behavior in nature and reminds us of the importance of protecting habitats that sustain migratory birds. It is both a celebration of wildlife and a tribute to the extraordinary patterns, unity, and resilience found in the natural world.

This series documents leopards, tigers, lions, lionesses, a hippopotamus, and an egret in moments of raw authenticity: a leopard holding eye contact as it stalks forward, tigers cooling in monsoon water, lionesses yawning wide enough to show every tooth, a male lion pacing in the afternoon heat, a hippo half-submerged with one ancient eye watching everything, and an egret caught mid-hunt with prey in its beak. These are not staged moments. They are the ordinary life of extraordinary animals β unhurried, unguarded, and utterly alive.
